COLUMBUS, Ohio – Area power companies have reported outages in the Central Ohio area due to the winter storm.

According to AEP, thousands of customers were without power in Licking, Franklin, Fairfield, Perry, Muskingum, Coshocton, Madison, Pickaway and Hocking counties on Saturday. In Muskingum County, there were nearly 6,000 customers without power.

As of 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, all AEP customers in Franklin County have had their power restored.

Crews are out working to get power restored as soon as possible in other Central Ohio communities.

AEP issued the following statement on their website:

"AEP Ohio crews, along with additional resources from other companies, will focus today on restoring service to the approximately 26,000 AEP Ohio customers without power today. Nearly 16,000 of those customer affected are in the Ohio Valley area, including 6,500 customers in Wheeling, W.Va.

At the height of the storm, more than 56,000 customers were affected by a major winter storm that blanketed most of Ohio with heavy snow, coupled with wind and ice. Outage restoration efforts are expected to continue through Tuesday for some areas."

South Central Power said some customers in Hocking, Fairfield, Franklin, Perry, Pickaway and Ross counties are experiencing power outages as well.

As of 7 a.m. on Sunday, South Central reported that 5,897 customers were still without service and as of 1:30 p.m., those numbers have dropped to 4,327 customers without service.
