COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio is digging out from the heavy snowfall that fell Friday and Saturday.
Storm Team 4's Marshall McPeek is calling for mostly clear and cold conditions with an overnight low dropping to 13 degrees.
McPeek said temperatures fell during the day Saturday and outside the city, temperatures continued to drop into the single digits Sunday morning.
Everything that was wet Saturday turned to ice overnight, making for some very slippery patios, sidewalks and side streets.
Sunday morning, the Ohio Department of Transportation said 94 crews are working to ensure interstates, state and U.S routes, ramps and bridges throughout eight counties in Central Ohio are safe and passable.
ODOT's focus is clearing snow from ramps and shoulders and salting due to blowing snow. By noon Sunday or sooner, ODOT roadways, ramps and bridges are expected to be safe and passable for the Monday morning commute.
According to Rick Tilton, Columbus assistant director of public service, the city had 68 trucks out Sunday morning, working on residential areas.
We’re not going to do a lot of melting today, McPeek said, as temperatures will only be in the mid-20’s.
High pressure is in the area for Sunday and Monday. But, by Monday evening, it moves eastward to make way for the next low-pressure system.
The system we get on Tuesday and Wednesday will give us a decent snowfall. At this point, it looks like 2 to 4 inches on Tuesday and another 1 to 3 incheson Wednesday, tapering off to flurries by Thursday morning.
The snow will fall on top of what fell this weekend, and on top of some of the ice that formed Saturday night. What does it mean? It could be a little slippery for a few days.
