COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police have identified the teenager who was found shot inside a vehicle after a crash on the city's southeast side Monday afternoon.

NBC 4's Tanya Hutchins reported with the FAST FACTS.

CPD was called to the intersection of Hamilton Road and Dundee Avenue on a report of a hit-skip incident and then received a call from Grant Medical Center about a fatal shooting victim at about 1:10 p.m.

Police said three males were pushing a gold van into the intersection when another vehicle swerved to miss the van and instead crashed into a tow truck.

The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Lashawn A. Johnson, was found inside the gold van with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The three males who were pushing the van were seen running from the crash scene. They were later located, detained and questioned. Police said charges are pending further investigation.

Hamilton Road was closed between Interstate 70 and Livingston Avenue. In addition, the exit ramp from I-70 westbound to Hamilton Road was closed, and the eastbound ramp only allowed for southbound travel.

The ramps and roadway reopened shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

District spokesperson Kim Norris intially told NBC 4 normal security measures were in place and that schools -- including Walnut Ridge High School at 4841 E. Livingston Ave. and Leawood Elementary School at 1677 South Hamilton Rd. -- weren't placed into elevated lockdowns.

Later, Norris said Leawood Elementary was placed into a level-3 lockdown until school was dismissed.

The district sent a letter home with Leawood students that explained what happened.

Hutchins said many parents decided to pick up their students from the elementary.

Hutchins also reported the incident was not school-related and children were not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS or Columbus police at 614-645-4730.
