NBC 4 Tests The Perfect Brownie Pan

»  Comments | Post a Comment

NBC 4's consumer reporter Mikaela Hunt tried out The Perfect Brownie.

Nothing warms the soul like a warm brownie. But can a pan really make the experience perfect?

The Perfect Brownie pan feeds on the trivial fear that on your own, you will never make a brownie that looks like Betty Crocker's.

It assures you that with the product, you can't get it wrong.

NBC 4 took the pan to an expert -- Elisabeth Allwein, who is in charge of the product testing kitchen at Cheryl & Co., a Columbus company known for its frosted baked goods.

Allwein made several batches of brownies using The Perfect Brownie pan, following the instructions.

"The one (direction) they repeat over and over is to spray it with pan spray and it really helps to facilitate them coming loose. There is a lot of surface contact with every single brownie," Allwein said.

The infomercial claims the pan is of the durable non-stick variety and doesn't mention cooking spray.

But, the baking tips do.

The instructions direct users to spray the divider, pan and bottom insert thoroughly.

Through each test, the consistent brownies were easily removed from the pan -- without damage.

However, Allwein did offer some tips:

Be careful handling the hot pan, and if you use your own recipe, only fill the pan half-full and discard unused batter.

When baked in the pan, there is no knife needed and the pan lives up to its promise and left the NBC 4 expert impressed.
