MASON, Ohio -- Local officials have voted down a plan to tax admissions and parking at Kings Island amusement park and a neighboring water park in southwest Ohio.
The city council in Mason rejected the proposed 3 percent park ticket tax and 5 percent parking tax Monday night, at a meeting that drew about 200 people. Residents who spoke out against the plan said the extra charges would be tough on families.
The tax on admissions would have added $3 to the cost of a Kings Island season pass and about $1.50 to the price of a one-day ticket.
The proposal's supporters had said the money was needed for road improvements and fire and police services related to Kings Island and The Beach water park nearby.
