COLUMBUS, Ohio
Jeff Tonn lives on Bucksburn Drive in Far West Columbus, just west of New Rome. He says a plow went through his subdivision south of Broad Street around 10:30 Sunday night. By then, he thought it was too late. Friday, Saturday and much of Sunday he said cars had a hard time passing over the snow.
"You're plowing over big boulders of snow. There was a piece out there where you could see somebody already lost the front end of their car, so somebody's car got some damage."
Tonn says he could hear the snow scraping the bottom of his car.
City officials say they plow and treat highways and major roads first, then residential streets. As of 7pm Monday, all residential streets had been plowed.
Rick Tilton, Asst. Director of the Columbus Department of Public Service, tells NBC 4 that four inches of snow has to fall before residential streets are plowed.
Trucks make one pass and do not go down to the bare pavement. He says the city wants to make the side streets passable.
With another storm expected, Jeff Tonn and his neighbors are hoping for the best the next time around. Tonn has called the city's 3-1-1 Call Center about his street in the past and wouldn't hesitate to use the number again.
