FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio -- Multiple fire departments helped fight a barn fire on state Route 22 near Washington Court House Thursday morning.
NBC 4 Photojournalist Shawn Holmes reported from the scene.
The fire was reported to authorities around 4 a.m. Thursday on the 7300 block of West Front Street or state Route 22 just west of New Holland.
Witnesses said multiple fire departments from Fayette County were on the scene fighting the blaze, which was contained a few hours later.
Several livestock were in the barn at the time of the fire, but it is believed they all escaped safely.
The barn also housed hay and farming equipment.
Witnesses said homeowners provided doughnuts and fresh coffee to the firefighters at the scene.
An investigation revealed the cause of the fire to be a John Deere tractor stored inside the barn. It was determined the wiring on the heating block shorter out, causing the fire that destroyed it and the barn, according to on-scene Fire Chief Mike Murphy.
Family members have started repairing one of the nearby barns damaged from the blaze in order to give the displaced livestock shelter from the weather.
No one was injured from this incident.
State Route 22 was closed for a time during the incident. It was reopened before 9 a.m.
