COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Authorities closed portions of Interstate 71 northbound and I-71 southbound Friday afternoon after crashes and arrests.
Authorities first closed a portion of Interstate 71 northbound after a crash and a police incident Friday afternoon.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS from the scene.
Columbus police closed a portion of I-71 northbound over Broad Street just outside Downtown shortly before 1:43 p.m. for crash cleanup and a police situation.
A vehicle was involved in a rollover crash on I-71 northbound, east of Downtown.
Two males allegedly fled the crash scene, leaving a woman and child in the wrecked vehicle.
CPD arrested both males, one for an outstanding warrant and another for not having a valid operator's license, according to police.
The woman and child were transported to a local hospital.
I-71 northbound was reopened to traffic at about 2:20 p.m.
About 15 minutes after the first crash, authorities closed a portion of I-71 southbound at Interstate 670 for a five-vehicle crash, including a tractor trailer.
Traffic was diverted to I-670 during the closing.
One person reportedly was trapped in one of the vehicles.
Tow trucks were on the scene at 3:30 p.m.
Southbound lanes of I-71 were reopened to traffic at 4 p.m.
The closings affected traffic in the Downtown split and on I-70, too.
The second crash might have been related to the first because of onlookers, according to authorities.
There were injuries in the crashes, but the extents remained unknown.
Additional information was not available immediately.
