CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The National Guard says 13 people aboard a Navy helicopter that was forced to land in a remote area of southeastern West Virginia have been evacuated.
Guard officials from West Virginia and Virginia say rescuers are still working Friday morning to evacuate four others who were aboard the MH-60S helicopter.
There were no deaths and the Guard says passengers are being sent to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The helicopter took off from Fort Pickett in Virginia on Thursday as part of a training exercise involving the Navy and National Guard. There were 14 Navy and three National Guard members on the downed helicopter, which went down in Pocahontas County about 100 miles south of its destination, Camp Dawson near
Kingwood.
The helicopter is based at the Naval Station Norfolk, Va.
