DAYTON, Ohio - A former suburban Dayton police officer who killed himself after he was indicted in an Ohio cold case was being eyed for at least one other killing.
Records show that Tommy Swint's DNA was tested, but did not match, evidence taken from the slaying of a prostitute. Swint shot himself in the head at his Phenix City, Ala., home on February 3rd, an hour after his indictment in the 1991 Dayton-area murder of another prostitute, Tina Marie Ivery.
University of Dayton's Director of Criminal Justice Studies Art Jipson says investigators should continue to look at unsolved homicides where Swint lived and worked.
Swint had been sworn in as a Trotwood officer in 2007, but resigned six weeks later after police in Richmond, Ind., told Trotwood officials that he was a suspect in the disappearance of former co-worker.
