W. Va. Jail Agency Halts Inmate Photo Downloading

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Inmate photos posted on the state regional jail system's Web site can no longer be downloaded by the public.

Inmate photos can still be viewed on the Web site: http://www.wvrja.com/. But the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority has disabled the public's ability to download the photos.

There's also a copyright notice that prohibits reproducing any information for use in any compilation of arrests, archive of booking photos or similar database.

Acting Military Affairs and Public Safety Secretary Joe Thornton says the state is trying to ensure that information posted on the Web site is used appropriately. He didn't provide details.
