COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police wants to remind everyone to get in the habit of taking opportunities away from criminals when it comes to your vehicles.
During the past 7-days, there have been 15 thefts from vehicles and 3 malicious destruction of property incidents in northwest Columbus.
The incidents took place in the Worthington Woods area, Sawmill Road, Olde Sawmill Road and Nimitz/Waco Roads areas.
The thefts are occurring primarily between midnight to 5 a.m. timeframes.
Criminals are often utilizing the "smash and grab" technique of smashing a window and then grabbing the items of value from the cars.
Thieves often roam area parking lots and streets looking for laptops, cell phones, purses and wallets that are inadvertently left in vehicles.
CPD wants to remind everyone if possible take valuables with you. If you must leave valuables in your car, keep them out-of-sight and in a locked compartment or the trunk of your car.
If you see any suspicious people or activities taking place, you are encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Department at (614) 645-4545.
