CANTON, Ohio -- Lawyers for an Ohio man charged with killing his two children and former mother-in-law have chosen not to put the defendant on the stand or call any other witnesses.
Defendant James Mammone III told the judge in Canton on Wednesday that he agreed with his attorneys not to testify.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution rested after playing a voicemail message from Mammone to a friend after the killings. In the recording, Mammone calls himself a "homicidal maniac" and says he has "no regrets."
The 36-year-old has pleaded not guilty in the stabbing deaths of his 3-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter and the fatal shooting of the children's grandmother.
Closing arguments in the case are scheduled for Thursday.
