On this date in 1994: Columbus dropped to -22! Cold enough right, but it is always colder in the suburbs and country so check this out: -40 in Bremen and 4 miles North of Logan, -38 in Butler, -33 Pataskala, -32 Pickerington, -30 Ostrander. All others between -25 and -30 in Ohio.
So why is our weather like this now?
Jet stream has relaxed northward keeping the coldest air far to the north.
Southerly winds are transporting moisture from the gulf into the region and coming over cold ground = fog.
With low angle to the sun this time of the year, it is impossible to overcome this and give us any sunshine. Thus, we are cloudy, raw, damp, chilly all the time.
Storms are now entering the middle of the west coast and coming across the country so expect another rain event on Thursday and again on Sunday.
Nightly lows near freezing provide the chance for brief frozen precipitation with any storm if timing brings them in before dawn.
When will it get cold? About the end of next week, but not bitterly cold.
Low tonight 28.
High tomorrow 40.
High Thursday 42.
