COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Authorities closed a portion of a Downtown street Monday after two vehicles were involved in a crash that injured at least five people.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS from Columbus police officers and fire personnel.
Columbus fire and police were called to T. Bears Florist and Chocolatier Shop at 237 S. 3rd St. shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash; one of the vehicles was a taxi cab.
A store employee said one of the vehicles ran a stop light and crashed into the other vehicle, sending them crashing into the building.
A female driver was pinned in one of the vehicles. She was extricated by 3:30 p.m. and was transported to Grant Medical Center with rib, neck and abdomen pain.
The driver of the second vehicle also was transported to Grant Medical Center. There wasn't any immediate information on his or her condition.
Three people apparently were struck by the vehicles as they crashed into the building.
One of the persons struck is a woman in her 70s. She suffered a compound fracture to one leg, and the other leg also was broken in the crash. She was transported to Grant Medical Center.
The other person struck was someone working at the shop. He was transported to Grant Medical Center.
A third person also was struck and was transported to Grant Medical Center.
One of the persons struck was pinned against the wall of the building. NBC 4 could not immediately confirm which person was pinned.
Although three of the transports to Grant were trauma transports, authorities on the scene said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Firefighters said it was good that the crash happened in the early afternoon because if it had occurred during rush hour, there could have been more pedestrians on the sidewalk and more vehicles on the street.
Authorities closed a portion of Rich Street at South 3rd Street. Traffic was diverted at South Lazelle Street. The roads were reopened shortly before 4:45 p.m.
