COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A fire at a North Columbus motel gave guests a scare early Thursday.

Columbus fire crews responded to a report of a fire at the Knight’s Inn on East Dublin-Granville Road, near Interstate 71, just after 4 a.m. Thursday.
Motel guest Omar Mohamad told NBC 4 he was alerted to the fire by people yelling outside his room.
He said he ran outside, saw the flames and gathered with the other guests.
Battalion Chief Mark Lawless said guests tried to put out the blaze with an extinguisher before fire crews arrived but were unsuccessful.
The fire was contained to a vacant room, and the motel received minimal damage.
Lawless said the fire began in the unoccupied room’s furnace unit.
No motel guests were displaced as a result of the fire.
