More than 6,000 marijuana plants were seized from remote areas of Muskingum County Friday after a flyover with state law enforcement located three plots of growing plants in an effort that began Thursday.
Sheriff Matt Lutz said that he and his deputies had to use chain saws to cut their way into areas where the plants were being grown. The areas are so far off roadways that authorities are not clear who owns the land involved.
He said they were apparently being tended because law enforcement found cots and a campsite next to one of the plots.
No arrests have been made.
Lutz placed the value of the seizure at around $6 million, valuing each grown plant at $1,000. The plants were a few weeks short of maturity.
The plants will be tested, maintained for evidence, and eventually destroyed.
