Authorities are searching for the person who attempted to rob an Athens County bank Friday afternoon.
According to the Athens County Sheriff's Office, a man wearing gloves, a mask and dark clothing approached a branch of the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville while carrying a duffle bag and a handgun Friday afternoon.
Investigators said the man tried to get in but was prevented from doing so because the door he was trying to use was locked.
Unable to get in, the man returned to his vehicle and drove out of the parking lot.
Detectives said the man is described as being approximately six feet tall and weighing 200 pounds. His car was a small, four-door vehicle, possibly dark gray or blue.
Anyone with information that would help the investigation is asked to call Detective Brice Fick at the Athens County Sheriff's Office at 704-593-6633.
