Columbus police were busy last week, issuing tickets after state Route 315 construction began.
New numbers released Monday showed that officers issued 169 tickets in the first tour days of lane closures last week. The lower speed limit may have caught some by surprise and officers were ready.
NBC 4 crews witnessed one officer issue three tickets Monday in a 20-minute time period.
Drivers traveling between 10 and 19 miles over the speed limit accounted for 140 of the tickets, while there were 28 drivers ticketed for traveling 20 mph more than the speed limit.
Nearly half the tickets were doubled because construction workers were present at the time of the violations.
The number of tickets dropped to only five on Friday, when police were called on to help protect President Barack Obama, who was in Columbus.
Fines range from $126 on the low end to a high of $241 -- depending on the speed.
