COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Interstate 71 south just north of the city has reopened after concrete fell from an overpass, injuring a driver.
The incident occurred on I-71 south under the Hudson Street bridge about 3:30 p.m.
According to CPD, concrete fell from the overpass and struck a driver through the windshield of a pickup truck.
The driver was transported to The Ohio State University Medical Center in stable condition.
Two lanes of I-71 south just before the Hudson Street bridge were closed during the examination and cleanup, but have reopened to all traffic.
ODOT Bridge Engineers have determined during preliminary investigation that it was concrete that fell from the bridge onto the vehicle. It is yet to be determined why the concrete came loose and fell. ODOT removed other small pieces of concrete from the bridge Tuesday night. Engineers will return to the bridge on Wednesday for more investigation.
Experts have concluded the bridge is safe for below and top travel.
