COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A local man who is disabled receives a resolution before he spoke to Columbus city council Monday night about how he felt a private parking company was taking advantage of him and those who come to help him at his Downtown apartment.
NBC 4 Photojournalist Rick Reitzel reported with an update.
Thirty-two-year-old Brent Simonds is a quadriplegic. He lives in a Downtown apartment complex.
Simonds told NBC 4 Standard Parking, a private company, charges for parking in and around his complex.
Nurses come to his apartment on a daily basis for medical procedures. He said Standard Parking has been charging his nurses as much as $10 to park in the garage.
That's the same price the company charges a motorist to park in the garage during a special event.
Before he had a chance to speak to council, Simonds received word from the nursing agency that Standard Parking had resolved the issue by offering a special $3-per-visit rate to Simonds' nurses.
Standard Parking said it wasn't aware of Simonds' issue until recently.
Simonds chose to speak to council members regardless of the resolution.
"I told my story in honor of people who don't have a voice. I'm here to help council keep Columbus accessible," Simonds said.
Simonds said he is happy with the resolution and is glad he could take care of his nurses.
