ELMORE, Ohio -- A police officer in northwest Ohio has been charged with making a threat on his Facebook page against an animal rescue group.

Authorities say Elmore police officer Shaun Harder wrote online that the Arabian Rescue Mission "needs to be slaughtered like livestock."

Harder pleaded not guilty on Monday to aggravated menacing.

The officer is a volunteer with the humane society, which has been battling with rescue group over custody of 36 horses that were found to be malnourished on a farm outside of Toledo.

Police in Elmore say Harder has been on unpaid administrative leave since December over an unrelated investigation.
