CLINTONVILLE, Ohio -- Burglars in one local neighborhood are going to great lengths to gain entry to local businesses -- even cutting holes in walls, police said.
NBC 4 is getting answers from local authorities.
Columbus police continue to investigate a number of burglaries in the Clintonville area.
The suspects they have been looking for haven't been prying open doors and breaking windows to gain entry, though: The suspects have been going through walls.
There's a hole behind a sheet of plywood inside the Jersey Mike's restaurant at 4249 N. High St.
It's a hole officers said was made by a burglary suspect during the late-night hours of Friday, Feb. 19.
"We have security. We have cameras. We have motion. We have all that stuff, and the one spot where it wouldn't pick up is where he came through -- and that's through the wall," said the restaurant manager. The manager didn't want to be identified.
Surveillance cameras did capture the suspect's every move after entry.
Police said the suspect first forced his way into a vacant office space located next to Jersey Mike’s.
Next, the suspect cut holes both into the restaurant and Pilates Innovations, 4245 N. High St., which is located next to Jersey Mike's.
The suspect apparently did not take anything from Pilates Innovations, but Jersey Mike’s wasn’t so lucky.
The suspect spent minutes going through the restaurant.
By the time he crawled back out the hole and got into a getaway vehicle, he had $700.
"Someone went through a lot of work. Because it's two firewalls, and then there's the fiberglass-reinforced panel," the sub-shop's manager said.
That incident wasn't only recent Clintonville business crime.
Police said a suspect broke into vacant office space on Graceland Boulevard and cut a hole to gain entry into a next-door Cokesbury bookstore, 194 Graceland Blvd.
A safe and $1,500 was taken from that business Friday, Feb. 12.
A burglar recently attempted to break into USA Tobacco, 4967 N, High St. through its poured cement roof, according to police.
Columbus police continued to investigate and work to determine whether the crimes are connected.
Anyone with information was encouraged to call CPD at 614-645-4545 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
