DUBLIN, Ohio -- In the fight against breast cancer, patients need more than great doctors and nurses. They need a whole support system because cancer doesn't just invade the body. It invades the patient's life.
At Hope's Boutique in Dublin, there's a support system ready and waiting to help cancer patients move forward.
"They're going to lose their hair and sometimes that's more traumatic than surgery, chemotherapy or how sick am I going to get," said Cassy Burke, a wig stylist at Hope's Boutique.
Burke conducts wig fittings at the boutique and has earned the nickname, "The Hair Godmother."
At the boutique, you'll find plenty of wigs and a lot of giggles.
Burke works to help every cancer patient feel relaxed and reassured.
"I love that I can help people feel a little bit better. I love that I can give back, because I've had my own scare with breast cancer and it's a very terrifying thing, especially in the beginning," she said.
At Hope's Boutique, they do it all -- wig fittings, bra fittings, post-surgical garments. Some are covered by insurance and the boutique specializes in things that can bring comfort to women with all types of cancer.
Vera Garafalo, Hope's Boutique program manager, said it's all about supporting the spirit.
"We smile and laugh and it's not because cancer is funny. It's because going down that journey, you want that spirit that helps you get through that," Garafalo said.
