BLACKLICK, Ohio -- The Ohio Environmental Council is holding a training session for Vernal Pool Training and Monitoring on Saturday.
This workshop and training session is designed for citizens, landowners, nature loves, scientists, public officials, and conservation activists.
The session is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Blacklick MetroPark at 6975 Livingston Avenue in Reynoldsburg. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members and includes lunch and informational materials.
Every winter, the shallow wetlands fill with snow and ice. Then by the first warm showers in March, they teem with frogs, salamanders, fairy shrimp, and other species. Vernal pools are important breeding areas for a variety of amphibians. But they are rapidly disappearing as poorly planned developments spread across Franklin County.
The training session is aimed at learning how to prevent habitat destruction.
