CHILLICOTHE, Ohio
On Friday March 5th around 2:50 p.m., a Trooper with the State Highway Patrol’s Chillicothe Post attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. 23 at Main Street in Ross County for marked lanes violations.
The driver, John A. Bunch, 37, of Mount Victory, Ohio, failed to comply and fled south on U.S. 23 towards Waverly at speeds reaching 95 mph.
Upon entering Waverly he fled northwest on several township roads and then onto SR 772, in southern Ross County.
The pursuit lasted approximately 30 minutes before the suspect’s vehicle tires were disabled by 2 sets of spike strips, causing him to lose control and crash into an embankment.
He attempted to flee on foot for approximately 100 feet before being taken into custody. A search of his person revealed crack cocaine, marijuana, and paraphernalia. Upon contacting the vehicle’s owner, it was discovered to have been stolen earlier that morning in Pike County.
Mr. Bunch was the subject of a felony warrant for armed robbery. He was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash and was turned over to the Adult Parole Authority.
His felony charges of receiving stolen property, drug possession, drug trafficking, and fleeing will be presented to the Ross County grand jury. The Pike County Sheriffs Office and ODNR assisted with the pursuit and apprehension.
