COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The latest dining craze in Columbus has nothing to do with a new hot spot or a trendy new way to prepare food. It's all about Fudha.
At Barrio in downtown Columbus, chefs create Latin-American and Spanish-inspired dishes. They're hoping the outside world comes in for a taste.
Tanisha Robinson worked her way through school by serving and bartending at local restaurants. She saw the effects of the recession in kitchens firsthand.
"It was very clear that things were slowing down and I thought, 'I wonder if I can apply what I know about the Internet to help my friends in the restaurant biz?'" Robinson said.
At the beginning of March, Fudha went public.
"Basically, you pay $10 on our Web site and you get to print out a Fudha coupon, which is worth $20 of food. There are specific terms for different restaurants," Robinson said. "People get to go out and eat and get a good deal and while they do it, they donate to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. So, it's just a win-win-win."
From every Fudha coupon, $1 goes to the food bank, which has seen unprecedented need in the past few years.
Barrio is the latest Fudha deal you'll find.
The Web site has more than 30 eateries committed to the project -- and counting.
Depending on what restaurant you choose, there are some restrictions.
