This morning’s sprinkles just added a spring touch to the air. It even smelled like spring for the first time.
And the birds are fluttering about, singing at the crack of dawn.
I am eagerly waiting for another sound of spring – not thunder – but the little peeper frogs that come out about now with the first warmth of the season. They are so loud and so associated with the spring it is another affirmation of the season.
Last night, I was within 50 yards of a Great Horned Owl walking the dogs after midnight.
It is risky to hoot back at them; I only do it when I can see them.
I knew of a man who talked back to one in Wisconsin while baling hay and it attacked and took an eye out.
They make no sound when in flight; you can not hear them coming.

Showers and rumbles of thunder from tomorrow afternoon into Friday morning.
This could give us .5”-1.0” of rain, but the snow is gone. We have not had measurable precipitation this month, so I only expect rivers to come to bankful.
Thawing of the ground is releasing water, too, at this time, though.
