COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An off-duty Columbus police officer is pronounced dead on the scene after the vehicle he was driving crashes into a building Thursday evening.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on the 1700 block of East Broad Street, near Franklin Park Conservatory.
Columbus police said a medical condition of some sort caused 42-year-old Bart Devictor (Joe) to go unconscious while driving.
The vehicle was driven off East Broad Street and struck a building.
There were two other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They were not injured.
Devictor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Devictor was a 14-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police.
His funeral will be early next week; the exact day was not determined immediately.
