COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A serious crash involving multiple vehicles closed a portion of westbound U.S. Route 40 or East Main Street on the city's East Side Friday.

Incident Summary: On March 12, 2010 at 11:47 A.M. a 1999 GMC white box truck operated by Nelson E. Hanes Jr. was east bound on Main St. approaching Mc Naughten Rd. The box truck struck the rear of a 2008 blue Dodge Avenger, operated by Douglas McCotter, that was stopped east bound on Main St. at McNaughten Rd. There was a 2007 white Lincoln Navigator operated by Andrea Robinette that was stopped in front of the Dodge Avenger also east bound. When the white box truck struck the Dodge Avenger it pushed the Dodge Avenger into the Lincoln Navigator. The box truck continued northeast and struck a pole. Mr. Hanes was transported to Mt. Carmel East Hospital by Medic 5 in critical-life threatening condition. No other injuries were sustained.

The crash happened shortly after noon Friday.
Authorities closed a portion of westbound U.S. Route 40 or East Main Street at McNaughton Road. Traffic on McNaughton Road was restricted in both directions. The roadways reopened shortly after 4:45 p.m.
Officials said a delivery truck and a vehicle collided. After the collision, the truck crashed into an electric pole.
One person was transported in critical condition to an area hospital. Further detail on other victims was not available.
