WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- A vehicle crashes into a utility pole early Friday morning and causes a power outage and a road closing.
A portion of Johnstown Road is closed to traffic and more than 1,000 people are without power after a single-vehicle crash pulled down electrical wires.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. on U.S. Route 62/Johnstown Road, a few miles north of state Route 161, according to the Franklin County sheriff's office.
U.S. Route 62 is closed to traffic in both directions between Walnut Street and Sound Tippet Road.
Apparently, a vehicle was driven off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole, which pulled down electrical wires. The driver was expected to be OK, according to deputies, but was cited for failure to control.
Almost 2,000 American Electric Power customers in Franklin and Licking counties were affected by an electrical outage as a result, according to AEP.
By 8 a.m. 182 customers still were experiencing an outage.
AEP crews arrived on the scene shortly before 7 a.m.
At 9:15 a.m., authorities said U.S. Route 62 likely will be closed for several more hours.
Residents in the immediate vicinity of the crash could be without power for a few hours.
