COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Two Central Ohio middle-school students placed in the top four of 200 math-able students in Ohio. They will represent the Buckeye State in a national MATHCOUNTS competition in Orlando in May.
Peter Tian of Columbus Academy placed third and Vickie Wang of New Albany Middle School placed fourth in the state competition that involved other sixth, seventh, and eighth graders Saturday at Columbus State Community College. Schools from around the state have been working since the beginning of the academic year for their chance at the state math title. Thirty-five Ohio teams competed.
The contest has the backing of the Engineering Foundation of Ohio, which sponsors programs designed to stimulate students' interests in math science and engineering.
