ELK KNOB, W.Va. - Twenty-two of 23 dogs taken from a Summers County home over animal cruelty charges were euthanized on veterinarians' recommendations.
Choya Adkins faces five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The 34-year-old Elk Knob resident isn't facing felony charges because none of the dogs were starved or physically abused.
Summers County Sheriff Ed Dolphin says the animals were living in disgusting conditions and suffering from a variety of diseases and parasites.
Veterinarians who examined the animals said 22 were too far gone to be saved.
A telephone listing for Adkins could not be immediately found Wednesday.
