MUNICH
An expert witness has called into question a statement being used by German prosecutors at the trial of retired Cleveland area autoworker John Demjanjuk.
The expert testified today in Munich that the evidence came from a KGB interrogation in which a prisoner may have been physically abused.
Demjanjuk was born in Ukraine, was once a Soviet Red Army soldier and is accused of agreeing to serve as a guard for the Nazi SS. The 89-year-old is charged with nearly 28,000 counts of accessory to murder at a Nazi death camp in occupied Poland in 1943.
He denies having been at any camp. Demjanjuk spent today's proceedings lying on a bed and listening to an interpreter, wearing dark sunglasses.
