Hoarder Sent To Jail

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Central Ohio community is growing frustrated with two houses from hell that line their neighborhood streets.

The homes are run down, one is empty, and they are both owned by the same woman.

The homeowner is Emily Evans and Thursday, officials said they found her home on Topsfield Road was filled with trash and plastic "stuff."

Within a few hours, they were in environmental court telling judge Harland Hale what they saw.

Evans didn't allow photos to be taken in her house, but officials had photos from another visit that showed a house full of trash with bug infestation.

"It has odors," said Bob Lyons, a neighbor. "You hate to see a person, I think more so a female than a male, with no help at all. But she won't accept any help. This is the thing. She will not accept any help."

The situation has been developing for at least five years according to the court, and some family members said it's been ten years in the making. A relative who didn't want to be identified said that Evans was a top student at one time, a cheerleader, who as an adult became a hoarder.

In court Thursday, Evans told Judge Harland Hale that she is making improvements toward cleaning her home.

"Your honor, I have just now gotten the help that I need for my depression and I know that you don't want to hear it. And I have just in the last month and a half gotten help with a psychiatrist and I am noticing a world of difference," Evans said.

In the neighborhood where she owns two homes, they only notice deteriorating properties.

Ashley Buzeteciu says it's about time Evans went to court over the situation.

"We saw, like, animals in there. It's full of trash inside. We kind of looked in the back and it's just full of trash. You can't walk in there. I saw a groundhog come out from, like, one of the basement windows," Buzeteciu said.

Evens was sentenced to 30 days in jail. She claims she's been working on cleaning her home. The judge said he's given her chance after chance, but no more.
