Everette Edgeworth thought he was doing a good deed. Or at least, righting a wrong he committed. Setting the scale back to even.
Charlotte police officers didn’t agree.
Minutes after robbing a Fifth Third Bank, Edgeworth turned around and went back to return the money he stole. He was soon arrested.
Apparently, Edgeworth’s belated conscience resulted from fear.
Family members said Edgeworth had no job, no money and nowhere to turn for help. And that might have forced him to rob the bank.
Family members also said he was afraid of returning to prison and that returning the money was his way of atoning for robbing the bank in the first place.
He didn’t want to go back prison, and, in his mind, returning the money would make it all good. It wasn’t.
Edgeworth may be heading back to prison. He was charged with robbery, and if he’s convicted, he could end up back in jail for 20 years.
