A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol is recovering after being hit by a car while enforcing the speed limit on Interstate 270, north of state Route 161 on the city’s northeast side.
According to officials with the Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patorl, around 1:04 p.m., 33-year-old Trooper Kevin Riley was hit after a Plymouth Neon lost control, struck the center barrier wall and hit the back of his cruiser. Riley was standing outside his cruiser at the time using a handheld LASER device to clock the speed of passing vehicles.
NBC 4 was told Riley, a nine-year veteran, was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital with minor injuries. OSP says the driver of the at-fault vehicle was taken to St. Ann's Hospital with minor injuries. Highway patrol officials say she was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control fo her vehicle.
The trooper was taking part in the highway patrol’s stepped up safety efforts for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
