Columbus police closed the Fifth Avenue bridge over the Olentangy River Saturday evening to enable rescuers to look for a person a witness said had jumped or fallen off a bridge.

The search took place between 6:30 and 7:00 Saturday evening.

Medics sent two boats downstream from where the witness thought she saw the person and two boats upstream.

As the boats approached each other, one group of searchers located a young man on a wooded bank,  injured but alive.

He was removed and taken to the emergency room.

His name and condition were not immediately available.
