The holiday weekend brought plenty of good, days off hopefully from work, some of the best weather we've seen for some time, but the news is not all good. Many people are still tightening the purse strings, and just staying home instead of traveling for the holiday.
To spend or not to spend, that was the question this week, its something that Brian Kish thinks about every day.
“As far as my budget for personal expenses and entertainment for my son planning, planning ahead so we can do fun things like that,” Kish said.
And on this holiday weekend, he chose to stay close at Zoombezi Bay, when the temptation might have been to pack up and head elsewhere, even though the dollar signs didn’t add up.
“Didn’t have travel plans my family lives all around Florida and other states, cost is a factor, really cost wise and things to do wise a fun place to go compared to other places 2 hours away Cedar Point and Kings Island,” Kish said.
With gas prices creeping up a tad, travel is not cheap. Brian Lucas' friends did the traveling this year, and it was well worth it for everyone.
"Very affordable kinds had a good time good family atmosphere it’s a good time," Brian Lucas said.
The Columbus Zoo was packed today as the free sunshine added a lot to an already good family atmosphere, staying close to home is certainly a trend that Julie Strohm's noticed.
"Feels like everybody stayed local today it was extremely crowded, families were able to take advantage of that, its great,” Strohm said.
And with unemployment still high, staycations are still the order of the day, especially for holiday weekends.
