There are a lot of skeletons in the closet in one Huntsville, Texas, house.
It's the work of artist and builder Dan Phillips.
Phillips says he loves building with bone.
"I love the primitive quality and that primal impact bone has," he says.
The Bone House is one of 14 homes he has built in Huntsville out of recycled materials or leftover construction supplies.
"I'd always suspected that you could build an entire house out of what went into the landfill," he says.
He was so convinced that his idea would work that he mortgaged his own home 12 years ago to pay for it.
The details in the Bone House are amazing.
In one room, bottle caps cover the floor.
In another, cork from champagne bottles cushion your step.
In other rooms, you'll find paper mache covering the floors.
There is bone furniture, a dog made of bone and a bone-covered counter top.
There's also a door that doubles as a bookcase and recycled flowers out front.
Phillips estimates the roomy 750-square-foot home cost about $26,000 to build.
He always buys new pipes and wire.
Much of the rest is donated.
"I set out to prove that you could make a reasonable living building for the poor, using recycled materials and only hiring unskilled labor," he says.
Behind the Bone Home, there's a studio where artists are working on a project to share the recycling message.
It's Phillip's mission.
"It's a wonderful feeling of being able to have fun and also giving back," he says.
