Numerous groups have come together to clean up the area surrounding the pond at Goodale Park in Victorian Village.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena family of employees are partnering with the city of Columbus Department of Recreation and Parks, Keep Columbus Beautiful and the Friends of Goodale Park for the project.
The park's pond will soon be drained in preparation for fountain construction, which is set to begin this fall.
Goodale Park was donated to the city in 1851 by Lincoln Goodale and holds the distinction of being the oldest park in Columbus.
Approximately 40 volunteers including front-office staff; players Mike Commodore, Jan Hejda, Andrew Murray, Fedor Tyutin; and new assistant coaches Brad Berry and Bob Boughner are participants in the event.
The Blue Jackets will open their 10th NHL season with a pair of games against the San Jose Sharks at Ericcson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9.
The home opener is set for Friday, Oct. 15, when the club hosts the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m.
Keep Columbus Beautiful (KCB) is part of the City of Columbus, Public Service Department, Division of Refuse Collection.
