Cleveland's police chief says a patrol officer has been charged with hitting a man on a motor scooter and fleeing the scene of the accident.
Chief Michael McGrath said Thursday that Alan Buford was charged with hit-skip after an internal affairs investigation into a May 6 accident.
McGrath says Buford, a 14-year police veteran, was operating his personal vehicle off-duty when he turned into the path of a man riding a scooter. McGrath says Buford left without providing his information and did not call 911 for the other driver, who was injured.
Buford surrendered to detectives Thursday morning and waived his pre-disciplinary conference. He has been suspended without pay. No attorney was listed for him on the court docket.
