Students at a Columbus elementary school are brought in from recess Friday as a precaution after staff members believe they hear gunshots.

NBC 4 reports with the Fast Facts from the Columbus City Schools.

A spokeswoman for the schools confirmed that Linden Elementary School at 2626 Cleveland Avenue established at level one lockdown Friday around lunchtime after a staff member reported hearing something that sounded like gunfire in the area.

Level one protocol requires students be brought inside from outdoor activities such as recess and that doors and windows be locked.

Columbus police responded to the area but found no evidence of gunplay.

The schools said the action was a routine precautionary measure.
