ZANESVILLE, Ohio -- A man has died in a car fire on a landmark Ohio bridge, despite the efforts of officers to save him.
Authorities in eastern Ohio say 28-year-old Scott McCuen was pronounced dead Thursday on Zanesville's "Y Bridge," where police say his speeding vehicle struck a wall and burst into flames.
An officer smashed a window on the car and tried to rescue McCuen, but the flames and heat were too much. That officer and two others eventually were able to pull the motorist out, but police Capt. Mike Baker says by that time it was too late.
Two officers were treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns and then released.
The crash remains under investigation.
The bridge resembles the letter "Y" when viewed from above.
