When NBC4 first visited the Capital Park Family Health Center on Agler Road, it was sandwiched into a 1,700 sq. ft. facility. That was in June 2010. Now, the health center is just settling into its new digs at 2365 Innis Road. It's a 15,000 sq. ft. facility paid for with a $4.4 million federal grant.
Elizabeth Csillag has been a patient for two years and said she loves the location.
"It's real big and swanky compared to the old location. The old place was always crowded, lacked parking. It was a nightmare," described Csillag.
"We've worked diligently on all the drawings, board members and staff. To actually see it all built and go inside this beautiful health center, it is so important for this community," said Chief Executive Officer Joy Parker.
The health center went from six exam rooms to 17. There's enough room to treat 6,000 people, with many more on waiting lists. The pharmacy, once the size of a pantry, is now seating at least three people comfortably and housing more prescription medications. The additional room also means more services -- especially for expectant mothers.
"For the first time we've been able to have OB care. We have an infant scale as well as a scale for mom," said Parker.
Unfortunately, the grant didn't pay for everything. The dental wing sits empty. But an agreement with the The Ohio State University dental school provides care once a month.
And there's still no money for mental health services, which is something Parker said is desperately needed.
Capital Park accepts all insurance cards, including Medicare and Medicaid. A sliding pay scale is used for those without insurance on a limited income.
A grand opening celebration is planned for October 19, 2011. It's scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
