Thieves break into a Marion sporting-goods store overnight and apparently have one thing in mind -- guns.
Marion officers responded to an alarm at Dunham's Sports, 1296 Mt. Vernon Ave., at 1:29 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators told NBC4 it was a smash-and-grab burglary.
"It is disappointing that they weren't more secure, especially with this type of weapon," said Lt. Daryl Burbaugh with the Marion Police Department.
The thieves stole four WASR-10 double-stack semi-automatic rifles from the store and then took off before officers got there.
Investigators said the thieves apparently knew exactly what they wanted.
For those who live in the county, it is not a good feeling knowing what is out there, and not knowing who has the weapons.
"What are they going to do? Rob, break into homes? That is a big weapon, a lot of power," Frank Turner of Marion County said.
For business owners near the scene of the crime, it doesn't sit well either.
"[It's] scary for everybody, law enforcement, the public. They could come in and take a lot of businesses out with those rifles," Lt. Burbaugh said.
Dunham's Sports' corporate offices did not return NBC4's call for comment.
A store employee told Marion police that this was the fifth similar incident in the state at Dunham stores where similar product was targeted.
