NEWARK, Ohio -- A Newark police officer is on administrative duty after he allegedly threatens to ticket FedEx employees.
Officer Bobby Hartless, 37, was placed on administrative duty Tuesday, Jan. 17, and surrendered his badge and service weapon, Sgt. Scott Snow told NBC4.
Hartless was waiting for a FedEx delivery at his home Tuesday, Jan. 3. He was not on duty that day.
Hartless missed the doorbell and tried to flag down the driver.
He contacted FedEx and was told the package wouldn't be delivered that day.
Hartless allegedly made threats against FedEx, including the threat of suing if he didn’t get his package, Snow confirmed.
He also allegedly said if FedEx drivers were to be involved in a crash or were speeding, they would be ticketed, Snow confirmed.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification was contacted to investigate the situation on FedEx's behalf.
Snow confirmed an internal investigation showed Hartless admitted to making the statements but said he didn't mean anything by them.
The investigation also found Hartless violated the department's general orders.
Snow told NBC4 there will be predisciplinary hearing on Feb. 1 in the future to determine any possible punishment.
No other details were released, but NBC4 will update as we learn new information.
