NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis received the Lott Trophy on Sunday night at the Pacific Club.
The award, named for Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott, recognizes on-field performance and personal character among defensive players.
Laurinaitis is a two-time Big Ten defensive player of the year who led the Buckeyes in tackles with 121. The All-American was a Lott finalist last year.
The 6-foot-3, 244-pound senior edged Aaron Curry of Wake Forest, Brian Orakpo of Texas and Myron Rolle of Florida State for the award.
