Jackets Rookie Will Miss Rest Of Season

Columbus Blue Jackets center Derick Brassard, who is leading all NHL rookies in points, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder that will require surgery.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus Blue Jackets center Derick Brassard, who is leading all NHL rookies in points, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder that will require surgery.

General manager Scott Howson said Monday that Brassard will undergo surgery in early January. He was injured during a game Thursday in Dallas.

The 21-year-old Brassard has 10 goals and 15 assists in 31 games. He is tied for the team lead with three power-play goals and is second in points and tied for second in goals.

Brassard was the sixth overall pick in the 2006 draft and was the NHL's rookie of the month for October. He has earned points in 20 games this season.
