FRESNO, Calif. -- A former Fresno State defensive tackle drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals must return to court after a Fresno jury could not reach a verdict in his misdemeanor trial.
Jason Shirley missed most of his final college season after he was accused of crashing a car into an apartment complex in October and fleeing the scene.
Charges against him include hit and run, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. A retrial of his case is expected to take place June 25.
The Bengals picked Shirley in the fifth round of the NFL draft in April.
Shirley's lawyer, Charles Magill, says his client had hoped to leave for Cincinnati and was disappointed by Thursday's mistrial.
